Before this training, your dog should have known commands: "Go", "search" and "lie", as well, he should know how to retrieve.

First of all, the dog must be aware of that the direction you point at with your arm is where he should search, rather than you let him see your arm. During the training, you can be intended to point at somewhere when you are walking, and say command "go" to him. Repeat that again and again, the dog will understand the direction you point at is where he should go.

At the begining of training, don't put the object, which you hope your dog find, too far away, the distance from 10 steps to 30 steps is ok, of course, take the dog as a center. Now, let's begin. Take the object, it may be the wrapped food, walk a few steps away, put the object behind an obstacle, so that the dog can't see it. Come back to dog,  let him search using a gesture or command. However, try to avoid that the dog go everywhere, because it doesn't meet the requirements in SCH test.

In the course of searching, if the dog is impatient or do not continue to search, then you should let him lie in time, after a while, train again until he find and retrieve the object, as well, remember to give the dog a reward. In addition, if the dog feels difficult to search, you must help him to find the object finally, otherwise, the dog may feel an antipathy against the training with frustration.

A reward is always important, whenever the dog succeeds, give him a little food or a stroke. When the dog has gripped the skills, the distance for search may be longer than last time.
